Are We Living In The Last Days?
Is our world heading toward Armageddon?
Chairman of Harvard’s astronomy department, Avi Loeb, thinks so. He believes man is on the path to self-destruction, and should move to a safer planet. A group of atomic scientists are so concerned with the threat of nuclear war that they recently set the “Doomsday Clock” at 2 minutes to midnight—world destruction.
The Bible has much to say about a time it calls the “last days.” So, are we living in the last days, when plagues, warfare and famine reaches an unprecedented scale? Some scholars believe our 21st century world sets the scene for such a time:
- The Covid-19 pandemic could foreshadow a much deadlier plague.
- Nuclear or Cyber-warfare could swiftly send us back to the Dark Ages.
- Mass protests are fueling an unprecedented spirit of lawlessness.
These along with many other rapidly developing changes such as globalism and biological experimentation have many people asking, “are we heading toward an end to the world as we know it.” If so, is there any hope for the future?
Is There A Human Answer?
Some place their hope in man alone. They foresee a world like “Camelot” where all people will live in bliss. In his famous song, “Imagine,” John Lennon envisioned such a world—a world without religion, without God and without war.
Sadly, since Lennon wrote those words in 1971, tens of millions have died by violent crimes, wars, pandemics and starvation. No matter how hard man tries, and regardless of advances in technology his problems seem to only get bigger.
Is There Any Hope?
So, is there any hope for our world? One man in history claimed to have the answer to the human dilemma. He said we were created for a purpose. He gave those around him hope and promised that life through him would be meaningful on earth and hopeful for the future.
Jesus Christ told his followers that he would prove his words were true by performing a feat no one in history had ever done previously: die, be buried in a tomb, and rise again from the grave. How ridiculous is that—unless, he had power that no other human being has ever had—power over life itself!
